Getting an ideaWhat do we have in mind today thinking about the Varusbattle in 9 AD?
What did Arminius aka. Herman think 2000 years ago?
What happened in front of his eyes?
What was going through his head?
Did the Roman commander Varus suffer from headache before he killed himself?
I was toying with those ideas and questions – and I had the possibility to get into the head of the monument to take pictures. It's a quite mystic situation up there. A fascinating inner surface showing a fascinating image. I wanted to make this fascination accessible.
The first step was taking a spherical image inside the head of the monument. The next step was a cubical projection of this image – we mapped the sphere onto six sides of a virtual cube. The final step was the building of this cube in the real world. It took some time and I have to thank numerous people who helped to make this project happen.
